Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure that overall brightens the look of your smile when peroxide gels are used to break up the deep stain molecules within your teeth through an oxidation process. Any at home products used only remove superficial stains and can take weeks to notice a difference. At Glow Haven we use clean, safe and effective whitening gels to give you instant, natural, longer lasting results.

Sessions last about 75-90 minutes.
We will start off by going over your client intake form which includes medical, dental and whitening history. We will also address your goals, timeline, sensitivity concerns and evaluate the type/extent of stain, to help determine what kind of whitening gels to use on you. We will take before photos, get your starting shade and then have you do a quick pre-brush to prep for the procedure. A gum barrier will be placed to protect your gums. 2 rounds of whitening gel are applied, 15 minutes each, with our LED light. A desensitizing and enamel care gel is offered as an add-on at the end. We will get after photos and ending shade.

We have special, gentler gels formulated to help minimize any sensitivity. For these clients, we also offer and highly recommend a desensitizing gel add-on at the end to help. Clients typically do not experience any sensitivity during the treatment. If it does occur after your session, it is typically short-lived and minor. Make sure to let us know beforehand and we can adjust your treatment to help. Using a gentler gel can sometimes slow down the whitening process, making 2 different sessions an option.
Some things that can increase the likelihood of sensitivity are cracks, chips and wear on the teeth, thinner/decalcified enamel, untreated cavities, recession, etc.

Most clients will see results of 4-10 shades whiter, depending on the client. These results can be achieved through either 1 or 2 sessions.
Factors such as diet, lifestyle habits, genetics, enamel thickness, age, type of stains and starting shade all impact the results. Everyone has their own natural stopping point when whitening. Some can get to a brighter shade than others naturally.
At Glow Haven, we focus on safe, natural, effective results! The whitening process is different for everyone. We customize treatments for every session.
-
Results typically last about 6 months, with fading starting to happen around 3-4 months. It is very dependent on the client’s lifestyle and eating/drinking/oral hygiene habits. Some people come every 6 months, but frequent coffee/tea/wine drinkers or those who smoke, it is recommended every 3-4 months to maintain your brightness. Having an at home maintenance plan (using whitening toothpastes, strips, trays, etc) can help results to last longer between sessions.

Any restorations done at the dentist, will not whiten like your natural teeth. If there is superficial staining, then that will be removed, but it will not whiten past the original color they were put in. If your restorations are a good color match to your teeth right now, I would not recommend any whitening. If they are brighter than your natural teeth, then whitening can help them match better. It is recommended to whiten at least 2-4 weeks before you plan to get any dental work done or replaced.
-
You are not a good candidate for whitening if you have any untreated dental work/cavities or current gum disease. Having these can cause a lot more sensitivity and worsen your condition. At Glow Haven, we will NOT see anyone that hasn’t had a dental checkup/cleaning within the last year.
-
Teeth whitening is an overall very safe procedure, with little side effects. At Glow Haven, we use enamel safe, high quality gels.
If you are pregnant, we recommend postponing any whitening treatments, unless you ask your OBGYN and they say it’s okay for you. Then, we leave it up to you to decide if you want to whiten. There have been no studies done on pregnant women to tell if it is safe or harmful. Sometimes the gums and teeth can be more sensitive during whitening.
If you are breastfeeding, we leave it up to you to decide if you want to whiten.

For best results, it is highly recommended to not eat or drink anything for 2 hours after whitening and to avoid any stain causing foods/beverages for 24-48 hours after, as well as anything super cold/hot or acidic (which can cause a little more sensitivity). These can include coffee, tea, wine, soda, red sauces, dark berries, smoking, etc. We do offer a 10 min add on treatment that helps with sensitivity and enamel care and forms a stain shield over your teeth so you don’t have to follow the wait 2 hours after rule.
It is always recommended to do a maintenance at home between sessions to help your results last longer. This can include whitening toothpastes, strips, pens, trays, etc and needs to be done consistently or routinely to be effective. Glow Haven has a whitening toothpaste ($14) and a whitening pen ($26) available for purchase after your session is completed.
